Innovations in the locking of watches screws

Discover Soprima solutions
In the world of fine watchmaking, every detail counts.
That’s why Soprima, a leader in locking solutions, has developed innovative technologies to meet the sector’s specific challenges.
Isabelle Boulineau, Soprima’s Luxury Goods Sales Manager, explains the advantages of these solutions.

Ecological and economical alternatives to liquid glues
Soprima offers locking solutions that replace traditional liquid adhesives. The fact that the liquids are often polluting and costly to apply is now obsolete, thanks to dry thread lock applied to watch screws.

Our two solutions for locking watch screws
1-Micro-capsule bonding: Similar to Loctite-type liquid adhesives, the microencapsulated dry threadlocker deposited on the screw is crushed as it is tightened. The released adhesive polymerizes and bonds the threaded elements together.
2-Repositionable locking: Using polyamides, the locking system can be repositioned as the deformation is reversible, enabling the screw to be screwed in and out several times.
Our solutions can be applied to screws from Ø 0.7, covering a wide range of applications: back screws, bezel screws, decorative screws, bracelet screws, folding clasp screws…
With over 40 years’ experience and 15 to 20 million parts processed annually, Soprima is the watchmaking industry’s most trusted partner.

– Welcome to your new video, this time with Isabelle Boulineau, Soprima’s Luxury Sales Manager. Hello Isabelle.
– Hello Hatun.
– How are things going?
– I’m doing very well. How are you?
– I’m great!
– Thanks for inviting me. I hear we’re going to be talking about braking solutions for watch screws.
– Yes, we are. I know you’re in touch with customers in the luxury sector, but particularly the watchmaking sector. So, can you tell us more about braking solutions for watch screws?
– Yes, of course. We offer various braking solutions for the watchmaking industry, because we’ve been working with them for a very long time. So these are solutions that avoid the use of liquid glues, which are often polluting and very costly to apply.
– You mentioned cost. Could you tell me more about that?
– Yes, assembly costs are high when this type of glue is used. With Soprima’s solutions, the braking system is already present on the screw, so all you have to do is screw the part on. At that point, the assembly is glued.
– And what are these solutions?
– Well, we have several. We propose a bonding solution. Exactly the same system as for the Loctite drop. There are micro-capsules contained in the product on the screw. When the screw is tightened, the micro-capsules crush. They release the adhesive. It’s stuck. The second solution is the repositionable braking solution, with polyamides that lock the part in the assembly, but also enable it to be repositioned.
– And on which screws do these two solutions apply?
– We start at Ø 0.7 at Soprima, and offer a wide range of applications: back screws, screws for folding buckles, decorative screws, bracelet pins.
– And how many parts do you process each year?
– Around 15 to 20 million. With 40 years’ experience and a great deal of trust with our watchmaking customers.
– Okay, thank you. So thank you for this interview, and see you soon!
