Result: excessive pre-hole size compromised assembly performance.
A pre-hole diameter that is too large truncates the thread crests of the tap, which do not sufficiently enter the thread roots of the screw. The assembly is said to be “weak”, as it doesn’t crush the microcapsules sufficiently to activate full polymerization of the adhesive.
Recommendation: Adjust the size of the pre-hole for greater pre-coating efficiency.
The analysis showed that reducing the diameter of the pre-hole was essential to improve the mechanical strength of the tap. Once this had been achieved, the assembly could take full advantage of the properties of Soprifix SO22R pre-coating.
